Claude Mongeau is President and Chief Executive Officer of CN, a leading North American transportation company and a key participant in the movement of containers in and out of the Port of Halifax.
Over the past 16 years, he has held positions of increasing responsibility in CN's organization. In 1999, he was appointed chief financial Officer and in 2005 he was selected as Canada's Chief Financial Officer of the year by an independent committee of prominent Canadian business leaders.
In April 2009, he delivered the keynote address at the fourth annual Turning Points in Leadership dinner at Saint Mary's. He spoke on the 'turning points' in his career, as well as the importance of leadership, particularly in hard economic times. Fittingly, just five days later, the announcement was made concerning his promotion to the top spot at CN - another major 'turning point' .
He achieved his formal education at the University of Qu?bec (Montr?al), l?Institut Sup?rieur des Affaires (now HEC Paris) and McGill University. He sits on the Boards of CN, SNC-Lavalin, and Forces Avenir, a group that inspires young people to achieve success.
The honorary degree from Saint Mary's recognizes Claude Mongeau's leadership in business, his professional commitment and his inspirational work with young people.
