Dropping Courses
Often students may have to attend a few classes before deciding if a course is right for them. If it is decided not to continue with the course, students should review the before officially withdrawing. Withdrawing from a course after the deadline will have financial and academic consequences.
Note: Non-attendance does not constitute an official withdrawal from a course. Courses must be dropped online through .

- Executive MBA & Master of Finance programs
Academic & Financial Consquences
- Dropping a course may also affect a student's full-time status at the University. Students need to be registered in a minimum of 3 courses per term to be considered a full-time student.

Not being a full-time student can affect:
- Student Loans
- Scholarships
- Third-party sponsorships
- Study permits for international students.
How to Drop Courses
- Log in to
- Select “Enter Self-Service Banner”
- Enter your smu.ca email address and password.
- Select the "Student" tab at the top.
- Select "Registration".
- Select "Add or Drop Classes".
- Select the appropriate term from the drop-down menu.
- Beside each course is a drop-down menu
- Select “Web Drop”.
- Select “Submit Changes”.
- Double-check to make sure the class no longer appears in your schedule.
- If you drop a course before the deadline, it will be removed from your transcript.
