Smoke-free Campus

 Students Walking on Campus

The Saint Mary’s University campus (indoors and out) is completely smoke free. The policy prohibits the use of all smoke and tobacco products (with the exception of tobacco used for Indigenous ceremonial purposes), traditional cigarettes,  e-cigarettes, chew, pipes, cigars, hookah or water pipe smoking, snus, snuff, etc.

.

Please note that e-cigarettes are included in the policy.

Smoke-Free Campus & Tobacco Use Committee

A campus-wide committee includes representation from administration, staff and students, and connects to outside agencies such as Smoke-Free Nova Scotia, the Lung Association of Nova Scotia, and Nova Scotia Healthy Authority.

The Smoke-Free Campus & Tobacco Use Committee evaluates reports of repeat offenders, neighbourhood concerns, overall policy issues and recommends actions for resolution.

Opportunities for Students to Take Action

Join Smoke-Free Take Action! Working with the Healthy Campus committee and SMUSA, we are committed to improving awareness and education through organizing new smoke-free initiatives throughout the academic year.

Getting involved in Smoke-Free Take Action! is a great way to serve the Saint Mary’s community. You can also suggest that your group, society, or class project get involved with their own initiative, or joins ours!
